Have you spent hours drooling over travel videos from different parts of the world? Have you always wondered how a few men & women are able to travel for months (or even years), while a two week trip drains all your finances? Have you been thinking of a long term trip? A sabbatical? A gap-year? But you have spent so much time only thinking about it that you are almost ready to give up?
Well, Eccentrips.com, the website which focuses on edgy travel and lesser known destinations, and The Vibe, an authentic lifestyle content and experiences community, might have a tip or two that may bring these aspirations a step closer to reality.
Sachin Bhandary of Eccentrips.com, and the guy who quit his decade long Public Relations career to travel will share things he has learnt. After quitting his job in December 2014, Sachin traveled to over 14 countries and took challenges in most of them. He traveled across India in 25 Days on 25 Trains, learnt rock climbing in Thailand, explored a mystical Afro-Brazilian religion called Candomble in Brazil, fought at a fighting festival in Peru and learnt Salsa in Cali, Colombia.
He intends to share everything that he has learnt in a structured way at this workshop titled ‘Travel Longer, For Lesser’. The workshop aims to help travel enthusiasts in three aspects. The first one is how to shortlist destinations for a long term trip keeping the Indian passport in mind. The second major problem people face is planning their finances and tools & tips to keep costs at a minimum. The workshop will seek to address this in detail. Also, another important aspect is keeping an income going while you are traveling.
“I wrote a blog called How To Travel The World For Almost Free, and it went viral. Buzzfeed picked it up as well, and I started getting messages from people asking me more questions. I realised that a blog post was not enough, and people had many other questions which needed to be answered. So Asad, who runs this great community called The Vibe, and I decided to organise these workshops. This is purely for the benefit of other travel enthusiasts. We plan to take this across the country and help more people travel longer for lesser”, says Sachin.
Asad adds by saying, “Travel Longer For Lesser is an extension of The Vibe’s original new web series called Under The Rupee. We want to show urban India how value travel can be done to international destinations considering the Rupee is stronger than quite a few currencies across the world. Through these content properties and workshops, we plan to help many more Indians chase exciting experiences. Our first in the series in Under The Rupee is about Hungary, where we spent 20 days living it up in just 70,000 INR per person, and that includes flights as well!”
The workshop will also feature other well known long term travelers from Bangalore. The workshop will host a panel discussion where these experienced travelers will share their tips and stories from the road as well.
Sounds exciting? It should, if you have ever dreamt of packing your bags and disappearing from your daily life for a long time. For all you know, this is where your ‘Travel Longer For Lesser’ journey will start. Good luck!
